Checked financial service providers

In the financial sector the losses are the largest and the chances of recovery the smallest. Unlike buying goods, there is usually no buyer protection here, and payments often run over channels deliberately chosen because they cannot be reversed. Typical patterns are alleged trading platforms for cryptocurrencies, foreign exchange or commodities with a customer area in which the profits are merely simulated; credit brokers demanding a processing fee or an insurance premium up front; and investment offers with fixed return promises that are not achievable in a regular market. One reliable distinguishing feature is supervision: anyone conducting banking, securities or insurance business in Germany needs a licence and can be found in the company database of BaFin. Austria has a corresponding register run by the FMA, Switzerland one run by FINMA. These authorities also publish warning lists of providers operating without authorisation. The providers listed here were checked automatically against formal and technical characteristics of their website; that does not replace a lookup in the supervisory register. Never send copies of identity documents or account credentials to a provider you could not find there, and never agree to install remote-access software. Reputable providers do not push for haste and accept it when you want to examine an offer first.
